This program will scan your system registry and hard drive for invalid dll, svchost, file references, system references, javascript errors, activex errors, and outlook express errors for free.

  • A Slow System?
  • Harassed by DLL errors?
  • Plagued by constant Blue Screens?
  • Receiving error messages and don’t know why?

If that sounds like your computer you most likely have registry problems. Every Microsoft Windows operating system has a registry. Your system registry holds a wealth of information about your computer, which is why we constantly hear from users that after using their PC for a short length of time, it no longer works the way it used to. This is due in part to invalid entries that exist in your system registry, that might exist because of software you are no longer using or software that was not properly removed. By removing these invalid entries, you can significantly increase the performance of your PC.

Many locations exist that are the cause of the most common PC troubles. We have pinpointed these locations, and our free scanner allows you to scan for invalid registry entries that might be causing your PC issues. The software will inform you of where the errors exist, and what potential errors they might cause. Registryfix will scan for errors related to ActiveX controls, DLL issues, Windows explorer errors, Windows installer issues, Internet Explorer errors, Iexpore and System32 errors, Runtime errors, Outlook and Outlook Express Errors, EXE errors, Svchost errors and a wide variety of other system issues.

  1. When you install ZoneAlarm to your home computer, you’ll be asked if you want to program to scan for browsers and other Windows utilities that require Internet access- this will save you having to configure then later on. You’ll also need to reboot your PC after the installation is completed.
  2. This is the main ZoneAlarm window, showing the status of the program and the number of threats it has dealt with. Different program components are accessible via the menu on the left hand side of the window. If you get stuck at any point, click the Help button in the top right hand corner.
  3. Whenever a new program tries to transmit data to or from your PC, you’ll receive a warning like this one. If you trust the program involved, click on Allow (you might want to do some web searches to verify). Check the Remember this setting box always allows or block the application in question.
  4. Switch to the Firewall tab and you can adjust ZoneAlarm’s settings using the sliders show here - the High/Med combination is recommended for most scenarios, though you might want to make changes. Switch to the Zones tab to add other PC’s on your network that can be trusted.
  5. Open up the Program Control screen and click the Programs tab to see which applications are allowed to communicate through the firewall. Click on a particular program if you want to make changes. To add a new program to the list, click on the Add button in the bottom right hand corner.
  6. ZoneAlarm will sit in the system tray and keep your system protected while you work. Right-click on the ZoneAlarm icon to access a range of different options - you can lock down your PC, for example, cutting off all communication with the internet until you deactivate the feature.

Keep unwelcome visitors out of your PC system with the help of this leading security tool.

anti-virus_303x279_rgb-300x276 How to Protect your PC with AVG AntiVirus

  1. Once you’ve downloaded and installed AVG Antivirus, you can access the Control Center by double-clicking the program’s icon in the system tray. You’ll then be shown an overview of all the application’s various components - click on an individual entry to see more details and options underneath.
  2. If you’ve set the program up correctly, updates should be handled automatically. To change the update settings, click the Update Manager entry, then the Properties or Settings button underneath. You can modify how updates are handled, and choose to specify the update source each time.
  3. The Resident Shield utility will monitor new files to make sure they don’t pose a threat to your system, though some of the advanced features aren’t available in the free version of the program. The E-mail Scanner, meanwhile, can be used to check for and flag any messaged that appear suspicious.
  4. You can make use of the Scheduler to set up regular scans of your hard drive - this saves you having to remember to run them yourself. Use the Edit Schedule button to specify a time for the antivirus test. Again, you’ll find that some features are disabled for users of the free version.
  5. The Test Center window (click the Test Center button on the left) enables you to run customized scans of the hard drive. You can choose to run a full, comprehensive scan, or limit it to files and folders where you think there may be a threat. Click on any of the large icons for more options.
  6. Any files deemed to potentially pose a threat will be moved to the Virus Vault, where you can study then at your leisure - you can run a Web search to find out more about particular files. Right-click on a particular file and you’ll be given the choice of deleting it or restoring it to a particular folder.

redxplogo

Is it still a topic? I still find people talking about it at the local coffee shop. With the death blow to Windows XP, many people have found it difficult to deal with the loss of their favorite OS. It took some time to understand, but the loss of Xp is comparable to the loss of a loved one. Here are the steps we are going through.

Denial and Isolation

Yes, consumer demand was helpful in extending the life of XP. In the end, there is nothing that we could do for XP. XP was allowed service pack after service pack, people even modded XP to allow for directx10. Now we have to deal with the fact that Xp is no longer with us. My isolation phase was with Suse and Ubuntu Linux, both great experiences, but I had to move past that.

Anger

I blogged. Everyone blogged. The drivers didn't work so we were supposed to smash our scanners, printers, and our digital cameras. Microsoft told us to just wait because maybe, drivers would come out for our hardware. MAYBE DRIVERS WILL BE DEVELOPED!! This was unacceptable. We were all very angry, and that phase took a while to get through.

Bargaining

We all asked in whiny voices "Can I get XP on my Dell XPS." "How about I just use my old Xp and you just sell me a computer that is completely blank." The distributors also whined to Microsoft, and there was some leeway. But even with all of the idea storms, something has to give. It was inevitable that sooner or later, we would have to ?upgrade? :(

Depression

We cried and cried. We remembered the old logos. The old loading screens. We remember the slack security features that are replaced by the paranoid messages of Vista. We remember 1 XP, not XP "Ultimate", not XP "basic", not XP "low-fat double loading time add whip with a Sidebar". There is nothing we could do but cry.

Acceptance

We find solace in the fact that the death of XP was dignified. So many people tried to keep it alive. Yet, in the end, nothing will be done to quell the disappearance of XP from our lives. XP will live forever in our hearts. I know you are in a better place now XP.
