Nokia has announced that it will be offering many of its Ovi Maps services for free. These were formerly paid services, but Nokia has announced it will begin offering some of these for free. This includes the turn by turn service for both drivers and pedestrians using Nokia’s Ovi Maps. These services are ready to use right out of the box and they are easy to use. Users will be impressed by the options available to them.

This new version offers services for 74 countries and it is available in 46 languages. Many of its premium services will also be free of charge. Nokia will lose some money due to this switch, but only a small percentage of users actually paid for these services. There are currently ten phones that will support this software. Users can download these applications from the Nokia website and begin utilizing these free tools.

This is in response to Google’s offering on the android. Nokia hopes to expand the knowledge and usage of these tools on smart phones. This may lead to further developments in this part of their business.

This is a great development for users of these devices. It means you now have access to tools that were once only for paid customers. Overall, this could lead to a drop in other comparable services or the eventual opening up of these tools. It will be interesting to see how this develops and if other service providers become involved.

For now, users will have the luxury of using their smart phones to assist in navigating around their home town or favorite destination. Using your phone for this purpose eliminates having to use multiple devices to accomplish the same job. Mobile phones with GPS capabilities offer the user many services without all of the extra devices.
