Sony’s TransferJet Gadgets
The Sony TransferJet technology is still in its infancy stage but has the potential to become a must have household item. It has the ability to link up all of the digital devices that exists today with a new generation router. It is not like a wireless router you know and love. The Sony TransferJet is a competitor to the new Bluetooth 2.0 system and your standard USB transfers. The Transferjet is capable of transmitting up to 368mBit per second however the first products will only allow transfer speeds up to 40mBit. It is still much faster then the known Bluetooth and USB system.
Most of the electronics companies are backing the new technology, but have yet to show any working prototype of the technology. Only Toshiba has shown a working prototype at the technology fair in Tokyo Japan.
One draw back of the system is that you will need to be very close to another Transferjet capable system to actually transfer the data over. At the moment you will need to be at least 3 centimeters from the device to actually have it work.
Sony already has implemented the technology in its newest models of the Vaio laptop and Cyber-shots camera’s.
There are some other drawbacks to the system besides it being revolutionary new. The base station that you will have to hook up to your TV or computer is still using the USB2.0 standard. Unless there are TVs coming out with the same technology I suggest that you wait for more developments before buying it.
For laptops that do not have the technology already onboard Sony released a special memory stick that you can insert. The card is around the 100$ as of now. The memory stick holds up to 8 GB’s of data. The price will come down after the technology has been implemented in more devices and is more widely available.
