The Toshiba Qosmio G50 and the Toshiba F40 are the first laptops to make use of the SpursEngine. That is a multimedia co-processor, the same one used in the Cell ship that is installed in the Playstation 3. These laptops will be released in Japan in July.
Toshiba launches the Qosmio G50 and the F40 laptops with a chip that contains four of the Synergistic Processing Elements from the Cell Broadband Engine processor. The PS3 uses a chip with 8 of the SPE cores.
The Qosmio is a multimedia unit and has:
- 18.4 inch high-definition screen
- 500GB of hard disk space
- nVidia GeForce 9600M graphics processor
- Dual digital TV tuners
- Wireless LAN w/ 802.11n
- 4 hour battery life
The initial price will run you around $2,700.
