There are programs out there that help with fixing your ID3 tags so they feature the correct information. They are called ID3 tag editors. One of the more complete programs is TuneUp due to its interface with Itunes as well as the extras that come with it, which allows users to have an experience similar to the one they would have if they had all of the album artwork and liner notes. It is one of those rare add-ons that truly enhances the Itunes experience.

For starters, TuneUp will automatically fill your Itunes ID3 tags by actively ?listening? to the music through the individual acoustics of each song. From there, TuneUp matches its database of over 90 million songs to distinguish the exact artist and album. Of course, the exact artist and album may not be in the database. TuneUp gives users the option of declining what the database finds if the match is incorrect.

Cover art tends to be an issue, even with Itunes. Often times, such prolific artists like Bob Dylan have mislabeled album covers on Itunes due to there being special sets on Itunes that do not match up with the original artwork. TuneUp looks through its database of album covers and gives the user various options to match up with the respective album.

TuneUp goes further than just the basic tagging by providing links to extra content by the artist. Whether it be an artist bio or links to music videos, TuneUp brings an experience similar to what enhanced CD?s would bring in the late 90?s. Often, purchasing MP3?s is a cold business, leaving some of the warmth and artistry that music was known for behind. This make an attempt to bridge that gap and it succeeds in allowing the user to learn a bit more about the people behind the music. There is also an option to find similar or related artists for those who wish to branch out in their listening habits.

Perhaps the best feature on the TuneUp program is the concert option, which brings live, personalized updates on local concerts featuring your favorite artists. All concerts feature links to StubHub and give a better picture of when bands are playing, something that often gets lost in the shuffle before too late.

Whether it be manually or through a program like TuneUp, fixing your tags on Itunes can be frustrating, yet ultimately can lead to a better Itunes experience. I highly suggest this ID3 tag editor.

To edit multiple MP3s select all the files that need to be corrected and follow the same steps. These methods utilize the most common two media players for editing ID3 tags and organizing MP3s. The method for editing and organizing will be different depending on the media player, but most will utilize some variation of these methods. There are also many programs that will aide in updating and organizing. These programs will automatically update files that the “Update Info” engine built into the media player may not recognize.

One of these programs is TuneUp. The TuneUp program comes with multiple features that make updating the metadata and cover art easier, and also attaches to the side of Itunes allowing for simple drag and drop from the Itunes library. The feature Clean listens to the MP3 and checks it with an existing database allowing even more accurate updating, and also allowing to decide if the updated information is the correct before applying it to the ID3 tag of the MP3. Another feature is Cover Art. This feature checks the ID3 tags of files and searches for the cover art of the file. Searching a database this feature provides multiple choices for cover art to allot for increased accuracy.

These features are great for updating the metadata of the MP3, but programs like this also come with additional features that may not necessarily relate to updating ID3 tags and organizing MP3s, but are helpful and relatively related. One such feature is Tuniverse. This takes the currently playing MP3 and displays artist biographies, related artist, related music videos, and merchandise opportunities based on the playing MP3. Another feature is the Concerts feature that tracks the upcoming shows of all the artist in your media library, and also allowing for one-click ticket purchase of the same concerts.

TuneUp is available for download from the internet either for a free downgraded version, or a fee for the full version. The difference between the free version and the paid version is modest. The free version allowing only a select number of MP3s sent through Clean or album covers retrieved from Cover Art, as opposed to the unlimited uses from the paid versions. The free version does allow for unlimited use of Tuniverse and Concerts, though. Yet, for $29.95 for a lifetime usage of the program, the paid versions assets far outweigh those of the free version’s.

Programs like TuneUp aide greatly in the organization of MP3s, keeping from sifting through endless files and updating each manually, which can eat up hours of time depending on the amount of MP3 files that you keep on your hard drive.
